About Our Bulk Sulfured Apricots
Apricots have been cultivated in the central regions of Asia and have been an essential part of human history for thousands of years. Due to their ability to keep well in the times predating the refrigerator, dried Turkish apricots were basic trading goods on the Silk Road. It wasn’t until the 1900s CE that apricots became prevalent and readily available in the Western World.
Uses
These wholesale sulfured apricots are related botanically to peaches and nectarines.
- They are moist, plump, and chewy; they are a healthy alternative to other sweet snacks like candies or chocolates.
- Dried Apricots also find their home in many different types of baked goods.
- They also pair well with gourds in many different cuisines.
Storage
Bulk Sulfured Apricots will keep in the refrigerator or the pantry for 6 to 12 months. Freezing them will increase their shelf life, too, on average, about 18 months. For hot or humid environments, we strongly recommend refrigerating your dried apricots.
Nutrients
Like many dried fruits, our apricots are rich in soluble and insoluble dietary fiber. They are rich in essential minerals such as magnesium and potassium. As their orange color may indicate, Turkish Apricots contain high levels of beta-carotene. They also have high levels of iron, making apricots one of the healthiest snacks.
Sulfur dioxide is predominantly in dried fruits, vegetables, soft drinks (and alcoholic beverages like wine). It’s a preservative that can cover apricots to extend their shelf life and kill bacteria. Since sulfur maintains color, it often uses dried fruits that are light in color. These include golden raisins, peaches, apples, pineapple, papaya, mango, and these dried apricots to keep them from turning brown.
If you are looking for the organic version of our wholesale sulfured apricots without Sulfur Dioxide, we also sell those. You can find our bulk organic apricots here.
